Title : Dermatological recipes by Abulcasis Al-Zahrawi (c.936-c.1013)
Abulcasis Al-Zahrawi (c.936-c.1013) is one of the most important physicians from Al-Andalus, besides an eminent surgeon. His main work is titled Kitab al-tasrif (Book of the medical arrangement) that is divided into thirty treatises. The 19th treatise is about aesthetic medicine and cosmetics, and includes very interesting recipes with benefits in dermatology and cosmetology. This paper is an approach to his figure and work, and contains the translation from Arabic to English of some of these recipes taken from the Arab manuscript # 5772 of the National Library in Paris.
Professor Dr. Luisa Maria Arvide Cambra, Spanish is now Professor with Chair at the University of Almería (Spain) and she was Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at the University of Granada from 1979 on.
