Dramatic changes in specialist skin clinics in the third world

Oral · In-Person · Day 1

Abstract

About this talk

Patients seen in Referral University Urban Clinics display tremendous progress resulting from better medical attention in rural area.

These  changes are attributed to improved access  with better infrastructure  roads and road transport.

Good medical facilities and   trained personnel.in remote   rural  areas contribute to  this progress.

Dissemination and guidance on skin care and early intervention of skin conditions through the media, mobile clinics and Medical camps.

Emphasis on avoidance of  non-conventional therapists, quacks, bogus healers use of home made concoctions and potions containing toxic substances.

Above all Doctors sparing time to listen, understand and address patient concerns at primary level  of  their beliefs, superstition and unwanted fears  forms a vital part of   proper treatment of each individual.

All these have changed the outlook, reducing severity and undue complications of skin conditions.

Devastating Atopic Eczema, Contact Dermatitis are now scarcely seen at specialized clinics giving way to referrals of  conditions facing  more cosmetic concerns from those afflicted.

In past times the Cosmetic Industry neglected research and manufacture of products for dark skinned individuals

This resulted in the use all kinds of home made mixtures, unrefined not tested, botanicals, animal, sea and soil  ingredients causing skin damage.

Today however, Industry has caught up with the demand and now produce skin and hair products attracting consumers. It is now a thriving business.

My presentation will detail skin issues that now take second place of referral clinics in contrast to cases requiring more cosmetic support for healing or healed dermatology issues.
