Title : Efficacy and safety of CE ferulic and resveratrol serums after fractional CO? laser: A split-face controlled trial

Abstract:

Background: Ablative fractional CO2 laser is widely used for various skin problems, but it often causes erythema, dyspigmentation and prolonged recovery, which diminish patients’ quality of life.

Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of a topical regimen containing CE Ferulicserum and Resveratrol BE night serum after fractional CO2 laser treatment in a Chinese population.

Methods: In a randomized, investigator-blinded, split-face controlled trial, participants aged 18–65 years received CE Ferulic + Resveratrol BE serum (CEF-RBE) on one side of the face and normal saline (NS) on the other for 14 days. The primary endpoint was the erythema index (EI) on day 14. Key secondary endpoints included scab-detachment time, percentage changes in EI and melanin index (MI), skin hydration, transepidermal water loss, sebum content, edema, and overall subject satisfaction.

Results: Fifty-one subjects (mean ± SD age 29.8 ± 5.39 years; 56.9 % female) were enrolled. On day 14, the CEF-RBE side showed a significantly lower EI than the NS side (308.9 vs 325.3, p = 0.034). Median scab-detachment time was shorter on the CEF-RBE side (6.0 days, IQR 5.0–8.0) than on the NS side (6.5 days, IQR 5.0–9.0; p = 0.018). MI decreased by 7.4 % on the CEF-RBE side versus a 0.2 % increase on the NS side (Δ = -7.6 %, p = 0.044). Throughout the 14-day follow-up, skin hydration remained consistently higher on the CEFRBE side.

Conclusion: Applying the CEF-RBE regimen after fractional CO2 laser treatment reduces erythema and hyperpigmentation, promotes faster wound healing, and maintains skin hydration. Limitations such as possible contamination and adherence issues should be considered.
