Title : Updates in frontal fibrosing alopecia
Abstract:
Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA) is an increasingly recognized primary lymphocytic cicatricial alopecia, most commonly affecting postmenopausal women but now seen in a wider demographic, including younger patients and men. This presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of the current understanding of FFA, including its clinical variants, histopathologic features, and diagnostic challenges. The session will also explore the evolving landscape of FFA pathogenesis, emphasizing autoimmune, hormonal, and environmental factors, including the debated role of sunscreens and cosmetics. Special attention will be given to recent updates in therapeutic strategies, ranging from conventional anti-inflammatory regimens (topical/intralesional corticosteroids, hydroxychloroquine, doxycycline) to newer interventions such as JAK inhibitors, 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, and platelet-rich plasma. Case-based discussions will illustrate diagnostic nuances and therapeutic decision-making. The goal is to equip clinicians with practical, evidence-based tools for early recognition, disease monitoring, and individualized treatment planning.
