Acne Blue Light Therapy

Acne Blue Light Therapy is a promising new treatment option for those looking to reduce the appearance of acne. This therapy uses light in the blue range of the visible spectrum to kill bacteria on the skin, reduce inflammation, and reduce the amount of oil in the skin. Blue light therapy can be used as a stand-alone treatment or in combination with other acne treatments such as topical medications. The treatment involves exposing the skin to a blue light device which is generally composed of two types of wavelengths emitting from a panel of LED lights. The targeted wavelength is around 415 nm in the blue light spectrum and this is what is used to target the bacteria on the skin. When this light penetrates the skin it produces reactive oxygen species which is thought to kill P. acnes bacteria. This bacteria is associated with being a key causal factor of acne and by destroying it, this process helps to reduce and even eliminate acne in some cases. In addition to killing bacteria, Blue Light Therapy can also reduce inflammation in the skin. This can help to reduce redness, irritation and swelling from acne breakouts. Furthermore, blue light therapy can also help to reduce oil production in the skin. This is because P. acnes bacteria feeds on the sebum which is the natural oil produced in the skin and our pores. By treating acne with blue light therapy, this helps to reduce the amount of oil and sebum produced which in turn reduces the appearance of breakouts. Overall, Blue Light Therapy for acne provides a safe and effective way to reduce inflammation, kill bacteria, and reduce oil production, leading to reduced acne breakouts and improved overall appearance of the skin.
