Title : Treatment of hyperpigmentation of face in skin of colour with chemical peel

Abstract:

Background: Hyperpigmentation is a very common skin of colour; as darker skin tones already have a higher melanin content. Sun exposure is the number one Cause of hyperpigmentation as it easily triggers the production of melanin. Considering the intense sun and lower practice rate of sunscreen use, a number of people suffer from different forms of pigmentary changes on their face
Methods: This is a case series of repeated sessions of similidiet chemical peel treatments in 12 patients for different causes of hyperpigmentation such as melasma, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation secondary to acne, lichen planus pigmentosus and sun burn.
Result: Similidiet chemical peel sessions ranging from 4-6 were done; different chemical peels and concentrations were selected based on the intensity of hyperpigmentation. All has shown remarkable improvements in this case series.
Conclusion: Chemical peel is one of a good alternative treatment of different causes of hyperpigmentation of face in skin of colour. Selecting the right solution, concentration along with adhering to pre and post peel care is the key to achieve the desired result.
